What golf, cart paths, & the native area has taught me…

So…if you follow me on instagram you know I have been picking up the game of golf!

I’m loving it. I have a long way to go to really be able to say that i’m a “golfer.” Did i say long way to go? Yes a very long way to go! ha

However, my brother and sister are both naturals. They swing like it’s a piece of cake and it takes me 3 strokes to their 1. But lets be real….I’m outside, getting a nice tan, and getting a little better each game. Let’s just say whoever invented the idea to always play “best ball” was brilliant! 🙂



Ok…so maybe i caught them in the native area searching for a ball a couple times! 😉


I’m just proud to say that I know how to properly hold a club, which one to swing for the greatest and shortest distance, and what a birdie and bogie mean. 😉





I snapped this picture for my dad while at the golf course to show him where I was spending my day! 😉 …..and it made me think as I saw the path up ahead split off in two different directions….

How do i know which is the BEST PATH to choose? to go down? to take? because the “native area” really isn’t where i want to end up or stay.

So besides learning A LOT about golf….I’ve also been learning the “SECRET” to contentment lately & what it looks like to choose the best path.

Here is the “secret” –> “…I’ve found the recipe for being happy…whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am.” {Philippians 4:13}


So when you come to a crossroads in life, and you’re wondering which path to choose…be confident in knowing that you’re not alone. God is with you, before you, and behind you.

“He showed them the BEST PATH; then He led them down the right road…” {Psalm 107:7}

Clean Eating Basics!

ImageYou’ve heard the phrase “clean eating,” but maybe you aren’t sure exactly where to start. That’s where this article comes in!

Changing your lifestyle and incorporating clean foods doesn’t happen overnight if you are accustomed to processed foods. But ANYONE can do it! 

It WILL take discipline… (Like anything worth having!) You will begin noticing a change in the way you feel and the way that foods taste. You will have more energy to exercise and be active on top of your busy lifestyle. 

Here are the basics of clean eating:

1. Eat WHOLE foods.

Whole food is food in it’s most natural state. It has not gone through a lab and is not processed. Think whole vegetables, fruits, whole grains, seeds, unsalted nuts, free-range meat that is grass-fed. Organic food is best because it does not contain synthetic chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, antibiotics and hormones. (Check out this list of the Dirty Dozen & Clean 15 to help you decide which foods you should buy organic.) 

2. Cut out processed foods.

Processed food is easy to identify —  it has a label. If it has a label, that means it has more than one ingredient, and many times, it contains unidentifiable ingredients. Become familiar with reading ingredient labels. If it has more than 5 ingredients, most of the time, you should walk away. 

3. Eat small meals throughout the day.

This is known to help speed up metabolisms that have slowed, but it really is the best way to feed the body. Allowing the body to become too hungry is never good. Eating frequent, healthy snacks/meals will keep your blood sugar levels up so you never experience a “crash.”

4. Get rid of refined sugar. 

Just cut it out completely. It is bad, BAD news. Some effects of refined sugar include a slowed immune system, spiked insulin levels, increase of fat in the blood, increased stress and acidity levels. No bueno. Once your body and tastebuds get used to REAL food, you won’t miss all of that sugar, PROMISE! (And you’ll find REAL food, like fruits, taste even sweeter!)

5. Eat balanced snacks/meals.

The best combination to keep you full and give your body what it needs to stay energized is protein and carbs (especially after a tough workout!). Say buh-bye to those annoying hunger pangs. Shakeology is my favorite form of a quick, balanced and clean meal!

6. Cook your own meals.

You will learn how and what to cook as you go. Don’t let the thought of cooking every meal overwhelm you. Like I said, this is a process and a lifestyle that takes time to master. But the good news is – the fewer ingredients you use, the less complicated cooking is!

Follow These 10 Things to Make 2014 Your Best Year!

ImageIn order to make this year better than last year, you’re going to  have to make changes. Or, if you are like our family, you will have to embrace NEW seasonal changes and adjust!

Stop wishing. Stop hoping that you will see your dreams come true. Stop putting it off. No one else can do it for you! Start today and don’t look back!


Set huge goals. If they don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough. Write them down, look at them everyday. Make a daily, weekly, monthly and year goal.


Don’t let negative people drain you. Choose to rise above it all DAILY and be positive. You are completely in control of your attitude. Put up a sticky note to remind yourself of this truth.


With only a couple of days until January 1st, you could gain or lose 2 days of momentum towards your best year yet. The most successful people don’t waste time. They make the most of every day. Start NOW.


Small choice + Consistency + Time = BIG results! It’s really that simple. You won’t reach all of your goals in January just like climbers don’t get to the top of Mt. Everest in the first hour of their hike. Success isn’t instant. Push through the small, daily tasks and don’t give up!

I love fall!

The crunch of leaves under my feet, the fabulous sweater weather (no winter coats yet), & the sights and smells of fall! It’s no secret….I am in love with fall.

Dangerous faith. the living dead.

Emotion. It comes & it goes. The kind that makes your heart race, the kind that won’t leave until you sit down and process it. And let it flow out.

For a few months now I have felt a nudging like God wants to push me outside my comfort zone. The kind of comfort zone that smacks you back to reality and lets you see how BIG God really is.

And then I discover this:

“You are doing something great with your life – when you’re doing all the small things with His Great love. You are changing the world – when you are changing one person’s world. You aren’t missing your best life – when you aren’t missing opportunities to love like Christ…

Living radical isn’t about where you live – it’s about how you love.

It isn’t where we love. It’s how we love. It’s who we love.”

God wants me to LET GO of MY PLANS and SHOW UP to His.

Can I trust God even when He asks me to do something that scares me?

“You can be certain you are leaving a lasting legacy when you obey God and love others because the most powerful way you influence people is leading them closer to Jesus.”

The truth is…. I want to be pushed, I want to be broken.

I want to see how big God is and rely on Him in ways that are so far out of my comfort zone that I have no choice but to break and be put back together better.
I want others to know that obeying God and stepping out of what feels comfortable to me is something that I strive for.
I want others to know that I don’t want to hide from the reality of the world, I want to face it and I want to shine in it.

Living in my comfort zone is keeping me from truly living. Change my heart, God. Change me.
